Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening procedure is a very useful and effective way of achieving the desired whiteness of your stained and yellowed teeth. However, most people do not understand how to use the professional teeth whitening gel properly. Wasting the gel would cost you and also delay in achieving the desired whiteness. In fact, wrong application would lead to sensitivity.

1. Pre-treatment:

Before you use and apply the whitening gel and bleach on your teeth, you need to brush and floss your teeth. The gel work best on clean teeth. Before you fill the trays with the gel, make sure that you check the fit and comfort of the tray by trying it on your teeth. It is also very important to make sure that the tray is dry and clean, before the gel is applied. This is because moisture would reduce the efficacy of the gel.

2. Applying it:

Do not fill the tray completely with the gel. Fill only half of the tray by placing just a small drop of the teeth whitening gel on the inner front surface of tray. This would make sure that only the front surface of the teeth is covered with the gel. About 0.5ml of the gel would be enough for each application. Recapping the syringe would help you to preserve the gel for next application. It is always recommended that only the 6 to 8 front teeth are whitened.

3. Wearing the tray:

The tray needs to fit the teeth and stay within the mouth. The must rest against the teeth. if the gel overflows the brim and spills on the gum, swipe the excess gel off. You can wipe off the gel by holding the tray up or by using a tissue.

4. How long to wear?

According to the professional teeth whitening instructions, the gel filled trays should be worn for 30 minutes to 1 hour on the first time application, if you haven’t undergone any professional whitening treatment before. However, if the gel that you are using is a 10% to 16% concentration of Carbamide Peroxide Bleaching Gel, you can apply it overnight or even for 2 to 4 hours once or twice a day. If the concentration is higher, such as 20 to 22%, you can wear the tray for 30 minutes to an hour.Hydrogen Peroxide bleaching gel should be used for 30 minutes to an hour once daily.

5. Post-whitening:
Once you have removed the tray, brush your teeth to remove the excess gel. You can maintain the daily brushing and flossing regime. However, if you feel any sensitivity, use a desensitizing gel from the next time.

6. Caring for the tray:

You need to clean the tray using a Q-tip or a toothbrush and water. Keep it dry and store in a cool place, away from direct sunlight or heat. You can keep the gel syringe in fridge, buy do not freeze it.

It is always better to consult with a dentist and follow the instructions given on the gel.

best ways to restore your smile

With the advancement of dentistry technology, the dentists are now capable of offering a great improvement of even the smile and its appearance. If you have any problem associated with the appearance of the teeth, bite or the gums, you will be benefited with the smile makeover treatment. The most popular 5 procedures are –

  • Teeth whitening:

The most damaged and ugly looking smile is the one that showcases a set of stained and yellow teeth. However, teeth staining can well be managed. Although many people choose the over the counter teeth whitening kits that that can use at home, the at-clinic treatments that are done under the supervision of the dentist is always the best and most effective one. He will use the right materials and in the right proportion, along with the best tools, to bring out maximum results in a single sitting.

  •  Tooth reshaping:

The tooth reshaping is a very effective one. This procedure is done to remove a portion of the tooth enamel to give it an improved appearance. This will also remove the small chips. Crooked teeth, mismatching length of the individual tooth and also the shape and position of the tooth can be reshaped in this procedure. In some cases, where the misalignment is very slight, this procedure can be very effective. However, the dentist must be careful with the removal of the enamel as if not done carefully, it can expose the dentin. The enamel that is lost will not be replaced. Hence, it should be done with proper care.

  • Dental bridges:

Although a dental implant is a more effective and permanent procedure, the fixed dental bridge too is a permanent solution to lost or missing teeth. In this procedure, a dental bridge will connect the neighbouring teeth on either side and a false tooth that is placed on the bridge will fill the missing gap. One or more missing teeth can be replaced in this manner. These bridges cannot be taken out and are great for spaces in the mouth, where too much pressure or force through the bite is not put on.

  • Dental bonding:

In case the tooth is chipped or cracked, it can well be managed with a composite material that looks like enamel. The dentist will sculpt the material and shape it according to your teeth. As it polishes and hardens, it will give your teeth a natural appearance and the flaws will be covered.

  • Dental veneers:

Yet another way to cover the cracks and chips of the teeth is to use the porcelain veneers. These are thin chips of porcelain. These are available in a wide range of colours that suit your teeth shade. The dentist will place them on your damaged teeth. These too are permanent and cannot be replaced.
